Blue Doberman's Coat

Odie 10 Month Blue Doberman

I recently just brought home a Blue 10 month dobie pup. he is a love, but im a bit worried about his coat? it seems almost scaley, with wirey type hair.

We have had him for 5 days and since we didn't know what he was eating at his previous home, we have been feeding him a high quality dog food that is lamb and rice based ( that's what we feed our other dogs also)

I'm wondering if I can add anything to help his coat recover, or make it better.

It's not mange, almost a deficiency or allergy of some sort

Thanks!

This is possibly sebaceous adentitis. It is very common in blue dobermans, although not limited to, and is genetic. signs are: scaling, scurf, hairloss, and itching which can lead to secondary bacterial infections. The dog needs to have a skin biopsy in order to be diagnosed. There is no cure only treatment.

Coat issues?

Be careful of allergies. A good friend raised Dobermans for years and 3 of her current Dobies all have allergies to corn among other common food ingredients. Good luck!

I have been told..

I have been told that adding oils to your dogs food if you feed it hard food can help their skin immensely. I bought over the counter fish oil capsules and used a needle to puncture and put in with my pups food.

For a larger dog, I believe it would be one capsule per day. Check it out on the internet or check with your vet (obviously) But the fish oil seemed to help my chihuahua mix a lot. Good luck
