Cheese for Dogs
Is Cheese Bad for Dogs?

Consider cheese for dogs in your homemade dog treats, biscuits and cookies. Used in moderation, it can be a healthy and safe addition to your pet's diet and treat ingredients.

Cheese for Dogs

Cheese is very healthy for dogs.

If you are making your own dog treats to save money, it may not be the best choice for your homemade treat recipes. It is one of the more expensive ingredients in treats that dogs like.

Before you totally discount the idea, consider the benefits of cheese. It is high in protein and high in calcium!

Newer studies also indicate that it may actually re-mineralize your pet’s teeth and reduce the acids that cause plaque and lead to cavities! It also helps to protect your aging pet from osteoporosis.

Dogs enjoy just eating an occasional chunk, and they will devour a cheese biscuit or cookie.

You can add it to your homemade treats by grating it fresh, or using dried parmesan cheese in your treat recipe. Alternatively, you can spread a tablespoon of cream cheese on some treats.

Try using cheese powder in your dog treat recipes if you want to get that "cheddar" flavor. It's a nice easy way to increase the protein and enhance the flavor of your homemade treats.

When Not to
Give Your Dog Cheese

There is one exception to using cheese. If your pooch is overweight, do not feed it to her. It is one of those foods that can contribute to an existing canine weight problem.

However, if she is healthy and within normal weight guidelines, you can feed her an occasional cheese treat.

If you would like to purchase cheese powder for your dog's treats (or for your own treats--it makes GREAT crackers and bread sticks), you can buy it at Amazon
