Dog Birthday Party

Dog Birthday Party Having a dog birthday partyfor your pet's next birthday? Baking a dog birthday cake is just one thing that you need to do for your dog birthday.

Keep reading to learn how to get organized and what you need--for a memorable and exciting dog party! Your dog will have a happy birthday, surrounded by his favorite pals.

Planning a dog birthday party is similar to planning a party for your kids. Send the invitations out with plenty of time for the guests to respond. Make sure you put R.S.V.P. on the invitations, so that people will let you know if their dog will attend. That way you will know how many guests will be coming.

Plan for the menu and the activities, get the Birthday Party Supplies that you'll need, decorate, get the food ready, and then...party!

Dog Party Invitations

Use your imagination in designing the party invitations for your dog birthday party. If you have children, an easy and fun way to make the invitations is to get a rubber stamp of a paw print—you can find them at craft stores like Michaels or Ben Franklin.

Have your children stamp a big paw print or several little paw prints on the invitation. Hand write the details inside, and ask the invited guests to respond by a certain date.

and Party Decorations

Of course, to make the dog birthday party celebration more fun, you'll have to pick a theme. Is it your dog's first birthday? Or is he having “senior moments”? Does she love her rubber ducky? Or do you think of her as a pretty princess in pink?

Choose a theme and build your dog birthday party décor around the theme. Try to match the theme to your dog's personality.

Don't forget to check out banners and balloons that will go with your theme—you can often make them yourself.

Dog Birthday Cake

No dog birthday party is complete without a dog birthday cake. You can make one or buy one. I like to use a recipe for a cake for people--and just reduce the sugar content in the people recipe, so the dogs don't get too much.

If you decide to do this, you can reduce the sugar by 1/2 or even 3/4 of the original amount.

You'll find that dogs really don't mind having less sugar. They are quite content to dig in—when the signal is given that it's OK to eat.

If you are using a people cake recipe that has cocoa or chocolate as an ingredient, you can substitute carob for the chocolate, and it will be healthy for the dogs. Never, ever, use chocolate in a dog treat or dog cake recipe. It can be quite toxic to dogs.

One recipe that you might try for your party is the roses cake recipe It uses carob as an ingredient, and it makes a nice birthday treat. You use it to can make individual muffin size birthday cakes using a bone shaped muffin pan for the dogs, or use a larger bone shaped cake to serve to all the dogs at the party. Use this dog bone cake pan , and then cut the cake into serving size pieces.

If you want to make the dog birthday cake festive, use one of the dog cake icings or simply dust the top with a little confectioner's sugar (or flour).

If you want to avoid sugar altogether, simple spread the top of the cake or muffins with cream cheese. It looks like icing, and the dogs will love it!

Birthday Party Favors for Dog Parties

Of course you'll want to send a little memento home with your guests. Make sure that you put together little favor bags or boxes for the guests to take home with them. It is especially nice when they match the theme of the party.

If you have children, have them decorate plain white bags or boxes with crayons. Or, use rubber stamps to make the design. Another idea is to use stencils and a sponge with water based paints.

Put the kids in charge of the favor containers or bags and they will have a ball with this!

A week before the birthday party, bake some homemade dog treats to send home as favors. Use cookie cutters in the shape of something that goes with your theme.

For example, if your theme is "Rubber Ducky" because that's your dog's favorite toy, make homemade dog cookies in the shape of little ducks.

Or, just use a cute shape that you like or one that you already have--like little hearts or bones.

Momentos of the Dog Birthday Party

Here is where you will use the cute favor bags or boxes that you (or your children) decorated earlier.

Fill the favor bags or boxes with your home made dog treats, and, at the end of the party, give one bag or box to each pet parent as they exit the party with their canine guest.

Oh--Don't forget to take pictures of the party activities, and get copies made for each of the guests. Send the copies in a thank-you card to each of the canine guests and their pet parents.

Pet parties are such fun--and your guests will enjoy reliving the dog party through the photos!
