How to Throw a Dog Party

Dog Party Cakes and Treats
And More...

Having a dog birthday party for your pet's next birthday? Baking a dog birthday cake is just one thing that you need to do for your birthday dog party.

If you get organized now, you will have a great dog party that everyone will remember. But, keep in mind that a dog party takes more planning and organization than other kinds of parties.

Your guests will need to be occupied with fun activities the whole time, and they will be very appreciative of the gourmet dog treats that you serve.

And don’t forget to allow time to bake a dog birthday cake for the guest of honor and her friends!

Planning a dog birthday party is similar to planning a party for your kids. Send the dog party invitations out. with plenty of time for the guests to respond.

Dog Party Invitations

Make sure you put R.S.V.P. on the invitations, so that people will let you know if their dog will attend. That way you will know how many guests will be coming to your birthday party.

You can either buy dog party invitations or you can make them. If you make your own party invitations, use your imagination in designing the party invitations for your dog birthday party.

If you have children, a fun and easy way to make the invitations is to get a rubber stamp of a paw print—you can find them at craft stores like Michaels or Ben Franklin. Have your child stamp a big paw print or several little paw prints on the invitation. Hand write the details inside.

Dog Party Theme

Of course, to make the dog birthday party celebration more fun, you'll have to pick a theme. Is it your dog's first birthday? Or is he having “senior moments”? Does she love her rubber ducky? Or do you think of her as a pretty princess in pink?

Choose a theme and build your dog birthday party décor around the theme. Try to match the theme to your dog's personality.

Don't forget to check out banners and balloons that will go with your theme—you can often make them yourself.

Dog Birthday Cake

No dog birthday party is complete without a dog birthday cake. You can make your dog birthday cake or buy one from a local dog bakery.

Here’s a time saver for you. If you would like to make the dog party cake yourself (or you don’t have a dog bakery nearby), you can use a dog cake mix and there is even a dog icing mix that is really simple to use.

Using these dog bakery supplies is as simple as baking a people cake with a mix and an icing mix.

One recipe that you might try for your party is the roses dog cake recipe. It uses carob as an ingredient, tastes almost like chocolate, and it makes a nice birthday treat.

One thing to remember is, Never, ever, use chocolate in a dog treat or dog cake recipe. It can be quite toxic to dogs.

Dog bone pan for dog birthday cake

Cute dog paw muffins or cupcakes pan

Use this kind of pan to make pupcakes for your pet party.

If you prefer, you can also use the dog cake recipe or a dog cake mix to make individual muffin size birthday cakes using a Dog Bone Muffin Pan.

If you want to make the dog birthday cake festive, use one of the dog cake icings on my site, a dog treat icing mix or simply dust the top with a little flour.

Here’s another cool trick. You can leave the cake plain or use a white dog treat icing, and then top the cake with decorative dog-theme cake toppings.

A week before the birthday party, bake some homemade dog treats to send home as favors. Use cookie cutters in the shape of something that goes with your dog party theme.

For example, if your theme is "Rubber Ducky" because that's your dog's favorite toy, make homemade dog cookies in the shape of little ducks.

Or, just use a cute shape that you like or one that you already have--like little hearts or bones.

Mementos of the Dog Birthday Party

Here is where you will use the cute favor bags or boxes that you (or your children) decorated earlier. Fill the favor bags or boxes with your home made dog treats, and, at the end of the party, give one bag or box to each pet parent as they exit the party with their canine guest.

Oh--Don't forget to take pictures of the dog birthday party activities, and get copies made for each of the guests. Send the copies in a thank-you card to each of the canine guests and their pet parents.

Dog birthday parties are such fun--and your guests will enjoy reliving your dog birthday party through the photos!

Here are some ideas from a dog supply online.

Favors for Dog Birthday Parties

Of course you'll want to send a little memento home with your guests. Make sure that you put together little favor bags or boxes for the guests to take home with them. It is especially nice when they match the theme of the party.

If you have children, have them decorate plain white bags or boxes with crayons. Or, use rubber stamps to make the design. Another idea is to use stencils and a sponge with water based paints.

Put the kids in charge of the favor containers or bags and they will have a ball with this!
