Vegetarian Dog Bone Recipe

vegetarian dog bones recipe Try our healthy dog bone recipe for your vegetarian dog! No meat or meat products—only nutritious whole grains and all natural ingredients! Wheat free and corn free, too.

Delicious and healthful dried vegetables and brewers yeast add nourishment to these delectable vegan dog treats.

But don't limit these to dogs that are strictly vegetarian. We found that people bought these bones for dogs that were meat eaters also. They are tasty and nutritious--a great combination!

And, while you're in the baking mood, take a look at these vegetarian dog treat recipes:

Here is the dog bone recipe:

dog bones

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup unbleached flour
  • 1/4 cup barley flour
  • 1/4 cup dried soup vegetables
  • 1/4 cup brewers yeast
  • 1 ½ teaspoons dry yeast

Don't have the time to bake right now? You'll find some nice handcrafted pet bakery treats like banana crunch muffins at Healthy Hound.

And if you prefer lower priced manufactured natural dog treats, there's a nice selection at Only Natural Pet Store and also at Just4Pooches.

Directions

  • Place all of the ingredients in your breadmaker—in the order that you usually do.

  • Use the “dough” cycle.

  • When the dough is ready, remove it from the bread maker.

  • Divide it into 3 or 4 balls to make it easier to work with it.

  • Roll each ball of dough into a sheet. If you are making 3” bones make the sheet ¼” thick. If you are making 5-7” bones, make the sheet ½” thick.

  • Let the bones rise for 45-60 minutes.

  • Bake at 300 degrees F for approximately 1 hour or until they feel pretty hard to the touch.

  • Turn off the oven and let them continue to dry in the oven overnight.

Store the dog bones in a cool dry place in an airtight container for a period up to 30 days. Or, you can refrigerate or freeze them for longer periods.

I don’t recommend making the 1” bones with this dog bone recipe, as the dried vegetables are kind of “chunky” and stick out of the dough a bit. They also make it hard to cut the small bones.

Since vegetarians are very careful about what they and their pets eat, I know that you're interested in dog nutrition. The Whole Pet Diet Book has an interesting 8 week plan for getting your dog into optimum health and tapping into his own natural healing powers.

If you need a bigger dog bone cookie cutter, here is the place I've found with the best prices and selection:
