Millet Dog Food Ingredients
Healthy dog food ingredients often include millet, a grain used in livestock feeds worldwide. Rich in B vitamins, iron and potassium, millet is low in calories and healthy in dog treat recipes.

In addition, millet is rich in protein and it has no gluten. Thus, millet can be used in hypoallergenic dog treats and dog foods, and it is well tolerated by dogs with allergies. Usually I just add millet to my list of healthy dog food ingredients by adding about 1/4 cup in exchange for flour. You might grind it first in a coffee grinder if you will be using it in a pet treat recipe for an older dog or perhaps a puppy. Or, alternatively, you might want to soak the millet to soften it before adding it to the other ingredients. Millet will not stay fresh at room temperature, so store dog treat ingredients such as millet in the refrigerator or freezer for longer periods.
