Dog Diet

Dog Food

Quality dog food is crucial to keeping your dog healthy.

Whether you buy safe canine food with organic or natural ingredients, or make your own pet food from recipes, your dog's health will reflect your efforts--good or bad.

So how can you make sure that your dog is getting the very best diet that you can give her?

Most veterinarians advise that, if you buy pet food with good ingredients and a label that says that it is "100% complete and balanced", you will be pretty safe.

However, not everyone agrees...

If you are looking for some easy to make homemade dog diet recipes, I've included a couple of homemade canine food recipes on the site.

Perhaps you don't want to cook for your dog all the time. If that's the case, why not make one of these recipes as an occasional treat? Your dog will most certainly appreciate your efforts, and you will have fun cooking for him!

Dogs are pretty forgiving, so, if things don't turn out perfectly the very first time, I think your dog will enthusiastically eat whatever you have made for him.

Of course, if you will be making your pet food at home, you should be familiar with what a healthy dog diet looks like.

Dog Feeding Schedule

One of the questions that a lot of people ask is “How often should I feed my dog or puppy?”

In general, puppies should be fed more often, but smaller amounts. An older dog can be fed once or twice a day--or, if you choose, you can let an older dog help herself, as she sees fit.

Whatever you decide to do, it is best to keep your dog on a regular feeding schedule.

Special Pet Food Diets

Medical conditions such as diabetes, heart disease or even allergies require that you be more careful about the pet food that you feed to your dog.

If your dog has a medical condition or has special dietary needs, or if you have chosen to put your dog on a vegetarian dog food diet, there are some books available that will help you with making sure that you are giving your dog a balanced diet.

If you are planning to cook for your dog on a regular basis, make sure that you learn about dog nutrition and the requirements for a healthy dog diet.
