Beat Dog Nausea
with our Travel Treats!

Does dog nausea make travel difficult for you and your dog? A car sick dog can make your trip seem endless. Try these homemade healthy dog treats to calm nausea and prevent dog car sickness. Gingerbread Dog Treats In the fall in PA you can smell the wonderful aroma of gingerbread permeating from the Amish kitchens.

Having lived in Pennsylvania most of my life, I observed the traditions of many Amish families and became friendly with some of my Amish neighbors.

The Amish farm their land using natural methods that go back hundreds of years. They don’t use artificial fertilizers or chemicals.

They preserve the food that they grow—by canning it. And they cook everything from scratch.

Amish people also use herbs and supplements to stay healthy. One proven remedy that they use is ginger for nausea. It helps to soothe an upset stomach and aid digestion.

Another group that knows about this natural remedy is boaters. Boaters traditionally also use ginger to prevent seasickness. A simple ginger tea or a single capsule of ginger can calm the most queasy tummy! I know it's true, because I've tried it!

You can get a lot of tips for dog care online. But...sometimes you just need to ask a veterinarian a question.

Dog Treats to Settle Your Dog's Stomach

Ginger can help your dog too! If your dog has a tendency to get car sick, prevent dog nausea by giving him a ginger dog cookie or two before you go.

Take some dog nausea treats along with you when you travel, and make sure he has a gingerbread cookie when he needs it!

The gingerbread people cookie cutters that I use for my dog treat recipes are 2” or 3 ½” high. I like to use both gingerbread boys and gingerbread girls.

Here's the ginger healthy dog treat recipe:

dog treats

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup white flour
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 1 Tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • 2 tablespoons soy flour
  • 2 tablespoons wheat bran
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Directions

  • Put all the ingredients in your bread maker.
  • Use the dough cycle
  • When the dough is ready to use, take it out of the bread maker.
  • Divide it into 3 portions.
  • Roll the dough into sheets that are ¼” thick.
  • Cut out the gingerbread boy or gingerbread girl cookies.
  • Let the cookies rise for 45 minutes.
  • Bake the cookies in a 275 degree F oven for 1 hour.
  • Turn off the oven and let the cookies finish drying overnight.
  • Store the cookies in an airtight container and in a cool dry place.

While these gingerbread boys (or girls) help with dog nausea, your dog will enjoy them any time. Take some with you on your next trip, or just serve any time as a treat!
