Ingredients for Peanut Oat Drop Cookies Easy Dog Treat Recipes
- 1 cup unbleached flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 egg
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
- 3/4 cup oats
- 1/4 cup chopped peanuts
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F.Cream the shortening and sugar together, using your mixer (with a cookie beater).
- Add the egg and vanilla and mix well.
- Mix the dry ingredients (except the peanuts) in another bowl.
- Add the dry ingredients gradually and mix well.
- Stir in the peanuts.
- Lightly grease a cookie sheet with shortening or spray it with vegetable oil.
- Drop the cookies onto the cookie sheet—by ½ teaspoon or 1 teaspoon each, depending on how big you want the finished dog cookies to be.
- Bake the cookies at 300 degrees F for 30-40 minutes. Check frequently during the last few minutes to make sure that the dog treats are not getting too brown. They will be a nice light brown color when they are done.
- Turn off the oven and let the dog cookies continue to dry and harden (in the oven) overnight.
These dog treats will keep nicely at room temperature (in an airtight container) for 30 days, as long as you have dried them long enough. If you are not sure, then the safest way to store them is in the refrigerator, as dog cookies with moisture will quickly get moldy.
