What can you say about fire hydrants? They’re just…well, all dog!

These easy homemade dog treats are fun to make and fun to give. Your dog and his friends will love them!

Fire Hydrant dog treats are made with all natural ingredients and flavored with beef bouillon for the manly beefeaters in the crowd!

Great taste in a natural dog treat, all in a unique shape.

Cornmeal and soy flour add protein, and olive oil is a wonderful heart-healthy ingredient.

You've just got to have a fire hydrant cookie cutter for this one! They are often sold in a "dog" set with bones .

I use 2 sizes of fire hydrants--2" and 3" high. As you can see in the photo above, the 3" size is quite a bit larger than the 2" size.

Ingredients for Fire Hydrants
Beefeaters Dog Treats

  • 2 c whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 c unbleached white flour
  • 1/2 c cornmeal
  • 2 T oat bran
  • 2 T soy flour
  • 1 ½ t dry yeast
  • 1 T beef bouillon
  • 1 c water
  • 1/4 c olive oil

Directions for Fire Hydrants
Homemade Dog Cookies

  • Place all the ingredients in your bread maker. You can see bread machine reviews here.

  • Use the dough cycle.

  • When the dough is ready, remove it and divide it into 3 equal portions.

  • Roll the dough into 1/4” sheets.

  • Cut the cookies, dipping the cutter into a bowl of flour in between each cut. This keeps the cutter from sticking to the cookie, and makes your life a lot simpler!

  • Place the cookies onto a greased cookie sheet.

  • Let them rise for about 45 minutes.

  • Bake the cookies for about an hour at 300 degrees F. Check to make sure that they don’t get too brown!

  • Turn off the oven and let the dog treats finish drying overnight.

Store this healthy dog treat in an airtight container at room temperature.
