Pumpkin Homemade Dog Biscuits

You Bake 'em Dog Biscuits Cookbook by Janine Adams

For just a few minutes of your time, you can provide your dog with great nutritious pumpkin biscuits that she will adore!

Dogs love the taste of pumpkin, and it's really good for them! But, don't take my word for it.

Try the recipe and see what your dog thinks about pumpkin homemade dog biscuits.

I think pumpkin dog treats will become one of your dog's favorite flavors for homemade dog biscuits.

Here's the recipe:

Ingredients for Pumpkin
Homemade Dog Biscuits

  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 tablespoons dry milk
  • 1 cup white flour
  • 1/3 cup corn meal
  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup canned pumpkin
  • 1/2 cup water + 1 tablespoon water

Directions for Pumpkin Dog Biscuits

  • Mix everything in your mixer. This dough will be thick like cookie dough, so make sure that you use the appropriate beater.

  • When the dough is mixed thoroughly, roll it into rectangular sheets that are 1/4" thick.

  • Using a pizza cutter, cut the dough into 1/2” parallel strips. Don't move the strips—leave them in place on your cutting board.

  • Now, at about a 45 degree angle, go back and cut parallel strips that are 1/2” apart. You will end up with diamonds that look like the biscuits in the photo.

  • Or, if you want to make it easier, just cut the dough into little squares. The squares don't have to be perfectly even. Your dog will love them just the same!

  • Transfer the pumpkin biscuits (squares or diamonds) to a lightly greased baking sheet.

  • Bake the dog biscuits at 250 degrees F for about an hour. Since the biscuits are fairly small, they can brown fairly quickly. Check them occasionally toward the end of the baking time, to make sure that they are not getting too dark.

  • Turn off the oven, and let the dog biscuits continue to dry overnight in the oven.

When the dog treats are completely done, they will be hard, dry and crisp. They will be hard for you to break in your hands--and better for your dog's teeth.

You can store these pumpkin dog treats for a month or so at room temperature.

Pumpkin Dog Biscuits and many of my other dog recipes are great for the holidays, so keep some on hand for your Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers.

Last but not least, make sure you have some pumpkin homemade dog biscuits for trick or treaters on Halloween!
