Ingredients for Double Peanut Butter Tarts Peanut Butter Dog Treat
Crust:Filling: Icing: - 1/2 cup yogurt coating
Directions for Double Peanut Butter Tarts Gourmet Dog Treats
- Place all the ingredients for the crust in your bread maker and set the machine for the dough cycle.
- When the dough is done, remove it and divide it into 3 equal portions to make it easier to handle.
- Roll each portion into a sheet that is 1/4” thick, using a rolling pin on a floured cutting board.
- Cut the dough into circles. I use a biscuit cutter that is 2” across. You can vary the size of the tarts by making larger or smaller circles.
- Place ˝ of the circles on a lightly greased baking sheet. Spoon ˝-1 teaspoon of peanut butter onto the center of the circles on the baking sheet. The amount of peanut butter that you use will depend on the size of the circles that you make. I know there is a temptation to be generous with the peanut butter, but you don't want to have so much inside the tarts that it oozes out when it bakes, so be a little careful here...
- Place the remaining circles on top of the bottom crusts that are on the baking sheet.
- Take a fork and press lightly all around the edges of the tart. This will give you a nice edging that looks like a homemade pie crust or tart. Dip the fork in a glass of water frequently as you do this so it doesn't stick to the dough.
- Bake the peanut butter dog treat tarts at 300 degrees F for an hour. When done, they will be a nice golden brown.
- Turn off the oven and let the dog treats finish drying in the oven overnight.
- When the peanut butter dog treat tarts are ready, melt the yogurt coating in a double boiler or microwave oven.
- Using a flat edged knife, spread each tart with yogurt. You will need to complete this step fairly quickly, as the yogurt has a tendency to harden fairly fast.
- Sprinkle the top with colored sprinkles or colored sugar. Vary the colors for the various holiday—red, white and blue for Independence Day, red and green for Christmas, red for Valentine's Day, orange and black for Halloween, pastels for Easter or multi-colors for birthdays.
Double Peanut Butter Tarts should be stored in the refrigerator or freezer because they have more moisture than a dog biscuit or dog bone. Making homemade treats is a great way to make sure that your dog is getting good healthy food, even with his treats. But, remember, they don't have preservatives, so you'll have to be a bit more careful when you store them! There you are. You have a delightful gourmet peanut butter dog treat that will be quite impressive to serve (or take as a gift) at your next
pet party.
Enjoy...
