Please Help - My Maltipoo is Threatening Me!

by Merry

I have a ten pound, 2 year old maltipoo who is usually friendly. We are usually the best of friends.

The problem is that my dog has growled at me 5 times in the last 2 or 3 months. If I tell her to stop and then hit her on the nose, etc., she growls again and again.

I have done this as many as 4 times—and then I put her down on the floor and walk away from her.

Today was the worst ever.

I came home, after being out for an hour. (This is usually no big deal for my dog.) When I got home, she was happy. I nuzzled her and she growled 4 times—each time was nastier.

I put her on the floor and she was shaking. (This was the first time that ever happened, I think.) This was totally unexpected. I have never seen a dog do this (collie, chow, etc.) and I am scared of my own dog.

What on earth can I do? I am afraid that I will have to get rid of her.

Maybe your Maltipoo is not well. Get her checked out by your vet, before you do anything else.

I have been a pet groomer and caregiver for over thirty years, and can tell you that she may be trying to tell you she is not well.

Or she might be just testing you. Maybe you intimidate her. Don't put your face in her face, or she may think you are threatening her. She is very small, and you are very big. Leave her on the ground, and let her come to you. Let your dog seek out your attention instead of you forcing her to cuddle with you.

Your dog is not a toy. Sit on the floor ,get down to her level, and don't stand over her.

You might want to seek out a good trainer.

Good luck .
