Pumpkin dog treats a favorite for your dog?

Pumpkin for dogs is very healthy. Supplement your dog's healthy diet with this dog cookie recipe for pumpkin cookies, and add healthy nutrition to your dog's diet.

My sister and brother-in-laws’ dogs, Casey and Sammie, love pumpkin!

In fact, it’s their very favorite dog treat flavor. Casey and Sammie certainly gobble up these pumpkin dog cookies.

Homemade dog treats are healthier for your dog!



This pumpkin dog recipe is sure to please even the most particular of pumpkin lovers! In fact, this dog treat recipe can be made for dogs that are on a strict vegetarian dog food diet or for fat dogs who are trying to lose weight.

When I make this cookie recipe, I use several sizes of Halloween pumpkin cookie cutters that are shaped like pumpkins.

Often you can find pumpkin cookie cutters in a pack with other shapes you can use for other dog treat recipes.

It may be hard to find pumpkins during the spring and summer. Try your local Michael's or Ben Franklin, or the craft section of a bigger Wal-Mart.


You and your dog can have lots of fun trying new dog treat recipes. And, you can save money and give great healthy dog holiday or birthday gifts to your dog's friends and family.

Here’s the recipe:

Ingredients for Pumpkin Dog Cookies

  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 tablespoons dry milk
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin
  • 1/2 cup water, + 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 cup white flour
  • 1/2 cup corn meal
  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger


Directions

  • Place all the ingredients in your breadmaker in the order recommended by the manufacturer.

  • Use the Dough cycle.

  • When the dough is ready, remove it from the breadmaker and divide it into thirds.

  • Roll each dough ball with a rolling pin until it is ¼” thick.

  • Using the size cookie cutter that is best for your breed and size dog, cut out the cookies.

  • Place the cookies on a greased cookie sheet.

  • Bake the cookies at 275-300 degrees F for about an hour or until lightly browned.

  • Turn off the oven and let the cookies finish drying in the oven overnight.

Enjoy making these great pumpkin dog treats for your dog! If you want to give them as treats for Trick or Treat at Halloween, try decorating the pumpkin cookies with jack-o-lantern faces, using a little dog treat icing or yogurt coating!
