Tarts Peanut Butter Dog Treat

Tarts peanut butter dog treat with a peanutty shell, filled with a cream cheese and peanut butter filling that will delight almost any dog.

This peanut butter dog treat recipe has been recently overhauled, to make it even better.

I’ve also made it easier, so that you will spend less time in the kitchen, while making outstanding home-made dog treats!

The NEW peanut butter dog treat recipe makes little tart shells, which you will fill with a cream filling after they cool. You don’t have to bake them a second time, though. Just fill the tart shells, chill and serve.

The tarts in the photo above were decorated on top. I used this dog treat icing and a cupcake decorating set. If you prefer, you can leave the tarts plain, after filling them.

Tools You’ll Need for
Tarts Peanut Butter Dog Treat

After doing some experimenting, I discovered that there’s an easy way and a hard way to do this. The easy way requires using the right kitchen tools.

I only have a couple of recommendations, but I really do suggest that you get these couple of things. You will cut down on the frustration of trying to make the tarts without the right equipment.

This is a tart tamper and it is used
for making this tarts peanut butter dog treat.

You should use a tart tamper like this one to make tarts peanut butter dog treat.

In addition to your usual kitchen tools, you should have:

  • Tart Tamper
  • Silicone Mini Muffin Pan - this makes the tarts SO much easier! You can take the tarts out of the pan without breaking them, and they bake more evenly than other pans that I have used.

To make the tart shells:

  • Combine flours, wheat germ, oatmeal and baking powder in a medium bowl.
  • Place the water in your mixer bowl and mix the dry ingredients into 1 to 1 ½ cups of water. You may have to do this gradually, or the flour will fly out of the bowl. If you have a dough hook, you should use it. The dough should end up being the consistency of thick cookie dough.
  • Place a heaping tablespoon of dough into each silicone mini muffin cup and use the tart tamper to hollow out the center and give it a tart shape. Make the tarts a little thick, as you want to be able to handle them later.
  • Prick each tart a couple of times with a toothpick—this help them keep their shape, rather than bubbling up.

Your tart shells will change shape as they bake.

To make the tart filling:

  • Using your mixer, cream the cheese, peanut butter and vanilla together.
  • Mix in the unbleached flour until blended.
  • Add enough milk to make the filling smooth, but not runny. The consistency should be similar to that of a thick pudding.
  • Fill the baked tart shells with the peanut butter filling.
  • Chill the dog treats in the refrigerator, until you serve them.
