Have you been looking for healthy dog treat recipes for homemade dog biscuits, dog cookies, dog bones, training treats, vegetarian, or gourmet pet bakery treats?

I'm prepared to share with you the recipes from my pet bakery, Natural Pet Bakery--and even all the secrets and tricks that I learned.

In addition, I have been a dog lover for years. And so, I've also included tips for dog and puppy care, training and nutrition.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Linda, and this is Skipper. Skipper and I have just retired from our pet treat business—Natural Pet Bakery.

Because I have been a “health food nut” since the '60s, the dog treat recipes that I developed for the pet bakery were all made from natural ingredients and had no preservatives or chemical additives.

And to add fuel to the fire, we have 2 veterinarians in the family. I guess you could say that I wouldn't dare include ingredients that could be harmful to dogs! My dog treats and recipes have been carefully scrutinized by a number of very good dog-tasters and 2 very good veterinarians!

The truth is that I wouldn't give anything to Skipper that isn't pure and healthy enough to give to my husband, Steve. As a matter of fact, Steve is sometimes a taste-tester too! Skipper and Steve like to do things together.

A few of Skipper's treats started out as cookies or treats for the entire family. They just ended up as dog treats!

Good dog treat recipes were added to our selection of dog treats for the bakery. Recipes for treats that were not taste-tester favorites, were scrapped!

I wanted to create the best collection of dog treat recipess that were both healthy and nutritious and also eagerly eaten by the dogs. That part was really important to me. You need to have just the right combination of healthy ingredients and pizazz—for both the pet parents and the dogs!

I have to admit that there were a few bombs. One in particular comes to mind. I called it “Shoo Fly Pie”, after the Pennsylvania Amish pie that has such a lovely molasses flavor.

Well, even though I thought the idea was great--the dogs didn't like it, so the recipe was trashed! Which, as I think about it, was the best place for it!

Recipes for homemade treats that were designed for pets with special needs can be pretty hard to find. This is just a sampling, of cours. There are many more recipes for pets with special needs. And I will be adding more from time to time.

This group of dog treat recipes often takes a little more time, depending on how complicated the recipe is. But it also has some of the treats that are the most fun to make.

Many of these bakery dog treats actually look like people bakery items! I get the most personal satisfaction from making treats that look difficult and treats that look good enough for people to eat!

Whenever possible, I will include a photo of the finished dog bakery treat. I think it really helps to know ahead of time what something should look like!

Sometimes that best way to avoid a problem is to learn from someone else's experience! If I can help you avoid some of the mistakes that I have made, I'd like to do that!
